Narrative Biography

Joan Reutershan makes boldly colored collage and assemblage paintings, taking cures from the cacophonous New York City streets she traverses every day. She received her BFA summa cum laude in 2017 from Hunter College, CUNY, where she was a Kossak Painting Fellow.  She earned an MA Degree in Art History, also from Hunter College. Artist residencies she has attended are Vermont Studio Center, Byrdcliffe, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and Cha North, among others.

Reutershan’s work was included in Group Show at Honey Badger Motel Art Gallery (2024, Brooklyn, NY) and in the cross-disciplinary exhibition Dark Sky Land at Warehouse 1-10 (2023, Magdalena, NM).  Her first museum group show, Vision, was held in 2023 at the Danville Museum of Fine Art and History (Danville, VA).  Other exhibitions include the 3-person Abstraction, Layers and Perception at Riverside Gallery (2023, Hackensack, NJ), and Material X at 5-50 Gallery (2021, Long Island City, NY).  She has presented the solo shows High Low Crow Go at Studio 9D  (2021, New York, NY), BKNY Street View at One River School of Art and Design (2020, Woodbury, NY), with a redux at the Mariboe Gallery/ Swig Arts Center (2020, Hightstown, NJ).  Prior solo venues include the Florida School of the Arts Main Gallery (Palatka, FL), and Gallery Three at A.R.T. New York (Brooklyn, NY).  Reutershan shows with with Odetta Digital Gallery and the SHIM Art Network, both IRL at Aqua Art Miami in 2023. She is a member of Paradice Palase, the NYC Crit Club, Long Island City Artists and Blackburn Print Studio.
